Things to Do

Walking

  • Follow the 3 mile track from Seafield - it is a circular walk the last half mile is on the road
  • Seafield Loch (Loch Buic), 1 mile. Turn left out of Seafield and take the Forest Track on the first bend - a family of beavers is resident on this loch.
  • Coille Bharr Walk & Barnluasgan Woods - start from carpark at Achnamara junction
  • Crinan Woods Walk
  • Taynish Nature Reserve and Faery Isles
  • Forest Tracks are all open to the public unless harvesting operations are taking place
  • Kilmartin Museum organises free guided walks in the Glen during the season
  • Crinan Canal

  • Castle Sween, south of Seafield.  Park at top of road and walk through caravan park.
  • Clapper Bridge, Achnamara

  • Achnabreac & Ormaig Rock Art Sites
  • Dunadd Hill, ancient coronation site of Kings of Scotland

Wildlife & Natural History

  • Taynish Nature Reserve, Butterflies, dragonflies, otters, woodpeckers
  • Barnluasgan Heart of Argyll Wildlife Centre
  • Danna Island, south of Tayvallich, joined by causeway - otters, birds
  • Shoreline - birds, otters, seals and look out for ospreys
  • Loch Coille Bharr, Site of trial re-introduction of beavers - information at Barnluasgan
  • Moine Mhor (Big Moss),  Area north of Crinan Canal - hen harriers, short eared owls
  • Everywhere - deer, badgers, otters, buzzards, pine marten, red squirrels

Fishing

  • Fyne Tackle Lochgilphead for fly fishing permits and information.
  • Seafield - permits and boat hire on 3 local lochs

Boat Trips

  • Wildlife watching and fishing trips from Crinan and Ardfern - good for golden & sea eagles & Corryvreckan whirlpool.

Islands

Oban Bay

  • Gigha from Tayinloan, small accessible Island, no need to take car. Good for cycling and gardens
  • Jura from Tayvallich, passenger ferry, can take bikes (April - September only)
  • Mull from Oban

Beaches

  • Kilmory Beach, 10 miles south of Seafield.  Park on roadside and follow track past houses to the beach.
  • Crinan Ferry, head north crossing the Crinan Canal and take first left

Distilleries

  • Campbeltown, Oban & Jura are the nearest distilleries to visit. Islay has several but is a longer journey and not always possible to do in a day.
